In 2013 the ACS Petroleum Research Fund committed to new grants totaling $18.4 million as described below. There were more than 500 active research grants during the reporting period at colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, Israel, and the United Kingdom.
This ACS PRF grant program usually funds proposals from doctoral departments. The fundamental research proposed must be a new direction for the principal investigator. Seventy nine ND grants were awarded for $100,000 each over two years.
UR grants are exclusively for faculty in departments that do not offer a doctoral degree. The fundamental research proposed must include support for undergraduate students, and M.S. students may also be supported. Twenty one UR grants were awarded for $65,000 each over a three-year period.
DNI grants are intended for new faculty members in Ph.D.-granting departments in the United States who are within the first three years of a regular appointment as an Assistant Professor or the equivalent. Seventy one DNI grants were awarded for $100,000 each over a two-year period.
UNI grants are intended for new faculty members at primarily undergraduate institutions in the United States who are within the first three years of a regular appointment as an Assistant Professor or the equivalent. Twenty three UNI grants for $50,000 each over a two-year period were awarded.
Grants awarded will support the ACS Scholars program through the 2018-19 academic year and the ACS Summer School on Green Chemistry and Sustainable Energy through 2018.
Information on active grant types awarded prior to 2010 and not listed above can be found on the 53rd Annual Report site.
