Electron Transfer Chemistry and Nanostructured Materials, at the 35th FACSS Meeting, Sept. 28-Oct. 2, 2008, Reno, NV

Shaowei Chen, University of California (Santa Cruz)

This grant was to support four oversea invited speakers to attend the symposium of Electron Transfer Chemistry and Nanostructured Materials at the 35th Annual Meeting of the Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies (FACSS) held in Reno, NV from September 28 to October 2, 2008. Professor Hiroshi Nishihara from the University of Tokyo (Japan) attended the conference and gave a presentation entitled "Bottom-up fabrication of electro- and photo-functional molecular wires on the electrode surface" at the symposium. Profs. Yanxia Chen and XIaoquan Lu, both from China, were not able to attend the conference because of delay in visa processing at the US Consulate General in Beijing. Prof. David Fermin (UK) did not come to meeting either because of schedule conflict. Therefore, $1200 was allocated to offset part of Prof. Nishihara's travel expenditures and the rest of the grant $2400 was to be returned to PRF.

The PI was able to find domestic replacements in the last minutes to complete the symposium program and the symposium attracted a sizable audience (15-20 attendees throughout the program). Overall, it was a rather successful symposium.
