Hydration: From Clusters to Aqueous Solution, at the ACS National Meeting, August 2007, Boston, MA
Daniel Neumark, Univerisity of California, Berkeley and Kenneth Jordan, University of Pittsburgh
This symposium, at the Boston American Chemical Society national meeting, covered all aspects of hydration phenomena. There were approximately 36 invited talks, and considerable care was taken to achieve balance between experiment and theory, and between gas phase and condensed phase work. Invited talks were given not only by senior scientists but also by junior faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students. Contributed talks in each session offered additional opportunities for young investigators to gain exposure in the community.
By interspersing gas phase and condensed phase talks, the organizers insured that participants in the various sub-disciplines gained a broader perspective into the field of hydration than would have occurred in a more narrowly focused symposium. Discussions were lively, and attendance was high throughout the week. Overall, the organizers and participants considered the symposium a great success and were very grateful to the ACS-PRF for their support.
