Reports: SE 49679-SE: Solid-State NMR Symposium of the 51st Rocky Mountain Conference on Analytical Chemistry, July 19-23, 2009, Snowmass, CO

Mei Hong, Iowa State University

The ACS PRF grant to the 2009 Rocky Mountain Conference Solid-State NMR symposium, held in Snowmass, Colorado, was instrumental in securing high-caliber scientists from overseas to give invited talks at this premier solid-state NMR conference in North America. With the $3600 funding, we were able to invite Marc Baldus, Matthias Ernst, and Klaus Mueller from Germany, Arno Kentgens from the Netherlands, and Melinder Duer and Jeremy Titman from the UK. Their invited talks covered topics spanning new solid-state NMR methods, energy storage materials, biological nanocomposites and biological ion channels. The symposium included 41 invited and contributed talks and about 60 posters. The symposium had an attendance of about 125 people, on par with the historical trend. Overall, the conference was very well received. The presence of internationally renowned scientists, thanks to the ACS PRF funding, helped to increase the visibility of this meeting and fostered international collaborations in a beautiful mountain environment.
