Proton Conducting Membranes for Fuel Cells, at the IUPAC and ACS Conference on Macromolecules for a Safe, Sustainable and Healthy World, June 2007, Brooklyn, NY

Steven Holdcroft, Simon Fraser University

A symposium was organized as part of the IUPAC and ACS Conference on Macromolecules for a Safe, Sustainable and Healthy World, June 10, 2007 to  June 13, 2007.  The symposium was organized Prof. Kenji Miyatake, University of Yamanashi, and Professor Steven Holdcroft, Simon Fraser University. The symposium comprised of 2 half-day oral sessions.  There were 12 oral presentations, 6 of which were invited.  These included talks by John Kopasz (USA) "Membrane Development for PEM Fuel Cells, The U.S. DOE Perspective"; Peter Pintauro (USA) "New Polymers and New Membrane Morphologies for PEM Fuel Cells"; Patric Jannasch (Sweden) "Disulfonated, Trisulfonated and Phosphonated Side Chains for Proton-Conducting Membranes". Deborah Jones (France) "Functionalised Polybenzimidazoles for PEMFC"; Tetsuya Yamaki (Japan) "Development of Fuel-Cell Polymer Electrolyte Membranes Using Quantum Beam Technology: State of the Art at Japan Atomic Energy Agency"; Steven Holdcroft (Canada) "Low Temperature and Low RH Proton Conductivity of PEMs"; Kenji Miyatake (Japan) "Acid Functionalized Silica / Hydrocarbon Ionomer Composite Membranes for PEMFCs"  An ACS PRF grant was used to support the travel of international speakers: Deborah Jones (France), Tetsuya Yamaki (Japan), and Patric Jannasch (Sweden).
