Fire and Polymers 2008, at the ACS National Meeting, April 6-10, 2008, New Orleans, LA New Orleans, LA

Alexander B. Morgan, University of Dayton Research Institute

ACS PRF SE funds were used to support invited foreign speaker travel to the US to present at the 5th Fire and Polymers Symposium, part of the Polymeric Materials:  Science & Engineering (PMSE) division of talks given at the recent ACS National Meeting in New Orleans, LA from April 6-10.  The symposium was a strong success, covering 3 full days of talks (3 morning, 3 afternoon sessions – 42 talks total) with strong attendance in all sessions.  All 10 of the invited foreign speakers came and presented during the conference (listed below).  Those of us who organized the conference felt that the audience was a good mix of the usual researchers in the flame retardant field as well as new researchers and chemists/material scientists interested in material flammability.  Question and answer sessions were robust and efforts are underway to capture many of the talks from this symposium into a ACS symposium series book, to be published next year.
