45162-SE
Theory of Rare Events and Accelerated Dynamics, at the ACS National Meeting, September 2006, San Francisco, CA

Graeme Henkelman, University of Texas (Austin)

This ACS-PRF 45139-SE grant was used to bring four foreign speakers to our symposium at the ACS entitled "Theory of Rare Events and Accelerated Dynamics". Specifically, we brought in Prof. Hannes Jonsson from Iceland, Prof. David Wales from Cambridge, Prof. Gerrard Barkema from Utrecht, and Prof. Francesco Montalenti from Milan. This session was very well attended - over-filling the room for several sessions, and our feedback from speakers and attendees was extremely positive. These foreign speakers were an essential aspect of this success, by giving key-note like talks and chairing subsequent sessions. Another important aspect of foreign speakers at ACS meetings is that they tend to be more committed to staying for an entire symposium, and therefore help provide continuity. We appreciate that the ACS-PRF provides this kind of support for symposia at the ACS meetings.
