48835-SE Activation of Dinitrogen: Past, Present and Future, at the ACS National Meeting, August 17-21, 2008, Philadelphia, PA

Michael D. Fryzuk, University of British Columbia

This type SE grant was used to reimburse the travel expenses for two speakers from Europe for this symposium. The recipients were:

1) Professor Felix Tuczek, University of Kiel (Germany)

2) Professor Jean-Marie Basset (University of Lyon (France).

This symposium consisted of three sessions over 11/2 days with the nine invited speakers (see list below) and ten contributed papers from graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other faculty members.

The invited speakers were:

Larry Sita - University of Maryland (lsita@umd.edu);

Pat Holland - University of Rochester (holland@chem.rochester.edu);

Dennis Dean - Virginia Tech University (deandr@pop.vt.edu);

Brian Hoffmann - Northwestern University (bmh@northwestern.edu);

John Arnold - University of California, Berkeley (arnold@berkeley.edu);

Sandro Gambarotta - University of Ottawa (sgambaro@uottawa.ca);

Felix Tuczek - University of Kiel (ftuczek@ac.uni-kiel.de);

Richard Schrock - Massachusetts Institute of Technology (rrs@mit.edu);

Jean Basset - University of Lyon (basset@cpe.fr).

The idea was to bring together both biochemists and inorganic chemists to share approaches and current information on this important topic. Each of the three sessions was well attended with audience numbers that ranged from 120 to 60. Each of the sessions was chaired and this allowed a number of the audience to participate in the question period.
