49616-SE Organometallic Chemistry of the d- and f-block Metals, at the 92nd Canadian Society for Chemistry Conference and Exhibition May 30-June 3, 2009 Hamilton, ON, Canada
The symposium entitled “Organometallic chemistry of the d- and f-block metals” took part in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada as part of the 92nd Canadian Society for Chemistry Conference and Exhibition (May 30-June 3, 2009). The symposium lasted three days (June1-3) and attracted significant audience: during the plenary lectures, including those supported by the PRF, the allocated room for 130 people was overcrowded, with the maximum recorded attendance hitting 140. On average, about 80-100 people were present.
This PRF supported project allowed three internationally renowned scientists (Profs. H. Braunschweig, P. Mountford, and M. Esteruelas) to attend this symposium and to deliver their latest results on CH activations, olefin manipulation, and B-C bond formation and cleavage. Their participation attracted many other leading scientists from Canada and USA and was an excellent match to the key lectures of speakers from North America (Profs. M. Brookhart, J. Hartwig, C. Casey) on catalytic C-H activation, C-heteroatom bond formation, and reduction of C=X multiple bonds. The main theme of the symposium was the further development of catalytic and stoichiometric transformation of organic substrates derived from petroleum. The participation of American speakers was supported through the additional funds raised. Conference fees of six key speakers were waived by the CSC.
