49358-SE Polymers in Electrophotography, at the ACS National Meeting, March 22-26, 2009, Salt Lake City, UT
Thanks to the financial support from PRF-SE Grant, this symposium "Polymers for Electrophotography" went very well. Electrophotography is the predominant technology used in modern printers and copiers. Specialty polymers are critical materials in the various components of the electrophotographic process, including: photoreceptors, toners and developers, fusing systems. With increasing speed and quality in digital color printing, the performance requirements placed on these specialty polymers presents significant challenges. The symposium achieved the goal to bring researchers from academia and industry together to discuss the challenges in the design of improved materials for digital color imaging and marking. The symposium covered the following topics: A) Photoconductive and Photoactive Materials: high performance charge transporting materials, high sensitivity photogenerating materials, abrasion resistant materials, low surface energy films and coating. B) Toner and Developer Materials: novel toner polymers, polymeric nano/micro-particle surface modification, charge control agents, surface modification of colorants (dyes and pigments), coating materials for developers, “green” toner materials. C) nano science and nano technology for materials in copier and printers. More than 150 people were attracted to this symposium. Three international speakers were invited for this symposium. With the PRF-SE finiancial support, Professor Andrzej Pacek from University of Birmingham UK gave an excellent presentation "Suspensions of pigment nanoparticles in aqueous solutions: Effect of pH and energy input on morphology and rheology". In one word, it was a very successful symposium.
