"Branched Polymers for Emerging Technologies" symposium at the ACS National Meeting in New Orleans, Spring 2008
Brian Douglas Mather, Hewlett-Packard Co
First, I would like to begin by thanking the ACS Petroleum Research Fund for sponsoring the Branched polymers symposium at the New Orleans ACS meeting. It was through your generous support that we were able to support several international speakers who gave excellent, well-received lectures on branched polymers.
The Petroleum Research Fund was acknowledged at the beginning of the symposium in a slide projected in the room as well as in a poster outside of the room, which was kept through all six sessions. Also, the ACS PRF was acknowledged in the ACS meeting technical program website.
Initially, in our PRF grant submission, we had requested funding for nine speakers: Prof. Brigitte Voit (IPF Dresden), Prof. David Sherrington (Univ. Strathcylde), Prof. Axel Muller (Univ. Bayreuth), Prof. Stanislaw Penczek (Polish Academy of Sciences), Prof. Martin Buzza (Univ of Hull), Prof. Nikos Hadjichristidis (Univ. Athens), Prof. Pierre Lutz (CNRS Strasbourg), Prof. Christian Bailly (Catholic Univ. Louvain) and Prof. Yves Gnanou (Bordeaux Univ.). Unfortunately, two speakers, Prof. Christian Bailly and Prof. David Sherrington were unable to attend the meeting. Thus, we increased the funding per speaker to $500, and funded the other seven speakers. The remaining $100 was allocated to partially fund Dr. Florian Stadler, who spoke in place of Prof. Bailly.
