46872-AC1 A Metal-Mediated Approach to Ring Construction
Progress in the last funding cycle has been made on numerous fronts. A number of palladium complexes bearing N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHC) were used in catalysis. These complexes are presently being tested in catalytic C-C bond forming reactions but have already shown interesting hydrogenation performance. The NHC-gold (I) systems we previously reported have now been examined in reactions involving rearrangement reactions. Very high activities were found for these well-defined complexes in hydration reactions (JACS, 2009). The gold chemistry was also described in a Chem. Soc. Rev. highlighting the very unusual nature of the gold chemistry bearing NHC ligands.
