48836-SE 32nd Reaction Mechanisms Conference, June 25-28, 2008, Chapel Hill, NC

Richard P. Johnson, University of New Hampshire and Malcolm D. E. Forbes, University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill)

The 32nd Reaction Mechanisms Conference (RMC) was held June 25 – 28,  2008 at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.  This very successful conference was attended by 170 scientists, including 52 graduate students, 23 undergraduates and 12 postdoctorals. The RMC program featured a diverse collection of 32 talks and 64 posters related to reaction mechanisms in organic chemistry,  organometallic chemistry and related fields. Technical sessions honored the professional contributions of Professor Ernest Eliel and Professor Kenneth Wiberg. Funding from this PRF SE grant was used to support the travel expenses of three international speakers:   Axel Griesbeck, University of Cologne, Selectivity Control in Electron Spin Inversion Processes: Stereochemistry of Photocycloadditions as a Powerful Tool for Mapping Triplet-Singlet Intersystem Crossing ProcessesArmin de Meijere, University of Göttingen, Peculiar Properties Caused by Unique Small-Ring Molecular ArchitecturesEusebio Juaristi, CINVESTAV, Mexico,  Manifestations of Stereoelectronic Interactions in   C-H One-Bond Coupling Constants.
